On Wednesday, 26 January, Southern Crafted Homes participated in a Corporate Sustainability Conference at St. Peters Episcopal Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Chief Operating Officer, Jim Deitch gave a presentation and on Sustainable Business Practices and Corporate Social Responsibility and later joined a panel that included Dr. Charles Kibert of the University of Florida, Mike Kennedy of Progress Energy and Brian Curry, Executive Director of the Sustany Foundation.

The half day conference included other experts in corporate sustainability and covered the ethical obligations of corporations, transparency, reporting, environmental concerns, federal regulations, and the FTC’s crack down on Green Washing, a term used to describe those who falsely or inaccurately represent their products and/or services as being green. Attendees covered a broad range of fields from government, construction, real estate, private business, and large corporations. “The concept of sustainability goes well beyond simply offering green products but rather entails the systemic change in behaviors by individuals and corporations for the betterment of the world we live in”, stated Deitch who has been considered a leader in the movement within the homebuilding business over the course of the last two years.
