Moffitt Cancer Center is pioneering an initiative to collect a global body of knowledge about individual cancer cases right here in Tampa, Florida. They have partnered with renowned cancer centers and research institutes across the country and are working to understand how and why patients respond to cancer therapies and treatments differently. Through this research they are learning to identify and meet all of the needs of each patient through drug therapies, nutrition, pain management, survivorship, and spiritual support. One component of this new initiative, called Total Cancer Care, is personalized medicine which researches the genetic makeup of the patient’s tumor and then uses that information to development treatments as unique as a fingerprint. This ensures that in the future patient’s will receive care with a greater chance of success.
