Custom Homes in Tampa

Do a search for custom home builders in Tampa (or any city for that matter) and you may be surprised at what comes up on your computer screen. A recent Google search I did brought up a national home builder known for their production and another who is a low-end regional builder. So what is this word “custom” that we see far too often when homebuilders advertise? Simply defined, it means “Made to Order”. That is a pretty broad definition. So that would mean any time a homebuilder sells a home prior to start it, then it would be made to order. I think most consumers would look at that differently.

For us, building a custom home begins with understanding clearly what the customer expects in a home and how they are going to live in it. We utlize our knowledge and experience to get to the very heart of what the customers’ expectations are: ensuring that we can do it right the first time, stick to the customer’s budget, and not have surprises come up during the process. By spending the time up front to get it right on paper, the process goes smooth for the duration of the project.

When building your new custom home in Tampa, Southern Crafted Homes provides one-stop shopping. We will handle everything from soil borings and samples, surveys, lot preparation and clearing, demolition (if necessary), ARC approvals when applicable, architecture and engineering, landscape plans, structural drawings and interior details and decorating. Many custom home builders rely on outside sources to handle many of these areas and many put the leg work on the customers to handle. When we build a custom home in Tampa, we handle everything for the customer, guiding them seamlessly through the process and ensuring a positive experience from beginning to end. Our dedication to streamlining building custom homes in Tampa is what makes us so successful–and it’s why so many customers choose us as their Tampa custom home builders.

You Can’t Judge a House by Its Cover, New Homes Tampa

You can’t avoid mother nature but you can prepare for her. Generally, there are two types of forces that can affect the structural integrity of your home. There are wind forces and seismic forces. Typically it is wind forces that affect us here in Florida. During a hurricane, thunderstorm, tornado or blizzard, the force of the wind on your house works two ways: (1) It exerts horizontal pressure on the structure; and (2) As it flows over the roof, the wind creates a strong lifting effect much like that of air flowing over an airplane wing. Smart homebuyers insist that their home be built strong from the inside out. At Southern Crafted Homes we focus on what is behind the walls first. This begins with the foundation and continues upwards as we consider the type, species and rating of our lumber and more importantly the Simpson Strong Tie Connectors we use to hold this structural lumber together. Connectors are steel components engineered to connect and strengthen the joints within the frame of your home.

A single connector may strike you as an odd piece of bent metal. It’s relatively small and may seem like an insignificant addition to your frame. However, when a new home in Tampa is built with a system of connectors throughout the joints, its ability to withstand Mother Nature increases significantly. In areas with extreme weather and hurricane conditions, well constructed shear walls are an important addition to the frame. This system of connectors and shearwalls redistributes the external pressures of wind from the frame of the house to the foundation. This concept is referred to as the “continuous load path.”

Southern Crafted Homes is proud to partner with Simpson Strong Tie Connectors to ensure that our homes are designed and built to withstand what Mother Nature throws at us and to protect your investment. Learn more about The Well Connected House at www.wellconnectedhouse.com
